Do I need the web-analytics npm package for session recording in Statsig?

Date of slack thread: 8/5/24

Anonymous: Session recording are just grey? Do I need to have web-analytics npm package. Using nextjs an enabling it in bootstrapprovider.

Cooper Reid (Statsig): Eek. that’s unexpected. What browser are you in, <@U072ESYDZMF>?

Cooper Reid (Statsig): Which packages are you using SR with? There are some dependency requirements that we outline here.

Cooper Reid (Statsig): The sample install code and initialize code shown here should get you in the right direction, did you see this guide yet?

Anonymous: Do I need web-analytics auto created events for session recording to work?

Anonymous: After adding web-analytics it seems to have started recording.

Anonymous: On your docs you shared.

Cooper Reid (Statsig): Web Analytics auto-records a bunch of events (detailed here). It’s not required to use S.R., but it will start recording sessions without having to instrument custom logEvent calls is i believe how it’s designed.

Cooper Reid (Statsig): Sorry bout that, lazy doc. We’ll fix.

Anonymous: Ok will remove tomorrow and have retest cause I have my own custom logEvents. No problem about docs, thought just point out. thanks for feedback.

Cooper Reid (Statsig): Yeah, ive raised feedback on our docs internally. I’m a bit confused as to what’s required as well. Will ping back as soon as i hear more!
