How can I set up a custom primary metric for CTA button clicks in Statsig?

Date of slack thread: 5/21/24

Anonymous: How can I setup the primary metric as link click to a specified page which would be my CTA as of now in dropdown options I see other metrics which are along the lines of DAU, MAU, WAU, Stickiness etc but I want the key metric to be people clicking the CTA buttons like Cloud Signups, Talk To Sales

Statbot: To set up a primary metric that tracks clicks on specific CTA buttons like “Cloud Signups” or “Talk To Sales,” you will need to create a custom metric. Here’s how you can do it according to the documentation:

  1. First, ensure that you have a Metric Source set up in Statsig. This involves running your SQL to pull a sample set and mapping specific columns required to calculate results. You can also include extra columns for breakdowns and filtering when you create Metrics (source).
  2. Once your Metric Source is ready, go to the Metrics view and click Create in the Metrics tab.
  3. When creating the metric, select the Metric Source you’re deriving the metric from and specify some settings. For your case, you would likely use the Count metric type, which is a basic count of events with filters, such as click events (source).
  4. You can specify breakdown columns for most metric types, which will automatically break down a result into common elements in metadata fields. This could be used to differentiate between clicks on different CTA buttons (source).
  5. Apply filters to flexibly reuse metric sources. This allows you to create metrics that only count specific events, such as clicks on your “Cloud Signups” or “Talk To Sales” CTAs (source).

By following these steps, you can create a custom metric that tracks the number of clicks on your specified CTA buttons, which can then be used as a primary metric in your experiments or analyses.
