Mixpanel

Overview of Mixpanel integration

Statsig's Mixpanel integration is a bidirectional connection that enables seamless data flow between the two platforms. This integration allows you to sync user cohorts from Mixpanel to Statsig and forward Statsig events to Mixpanel for unified analytics.

By integrating Mixpanel with Statsig, you can streamline your data pipeline and ensure that user information is consistently shared across both systems. This eliminates the need for manual data transfers and reduces the risk of data discrepancies.

The Mixpanel integration consists of two key components:

  1. Cohort syncing: Import Mixpanel user cohorts into Statsig segments for targeted experimentation and feature rollouts.

  2. Event forwarding: Export Statsig events to Mixpanel, enabling you to analyze experiment results alongside other product metrics.

Leveraging the Mixpanel integration, you can create a more efficient workflow for experimentation and product analytics. This integration empowers teams to make data-driven decisions based on a comprehensive view of user behavior across both platforms.

Cohort syncing with Mixpanel

Statsig enables you to import Mixpanel user cohorts into Statsig segments. This allows you to leverage existing Mixpanel cohorts for targeted experimentation in Statsig.

To set up cohort syncing:

  1. In Statsig, create a segment with the same name as your Mixpanel cohort. Set the segment type to "ID List".

  2. In Mixpanel, navigate to Data Management > Integrations and select "Custom Webhook".

  3. Paste the Statsig webhook URL (with your SERVER_SECRET_KEY) and click "Continue".

  4. Initiate a cohort sync job from the Mixpanel Cohorts page.

Syncing user data between Mixpanel and Statsig offers several benefits:

  • Consistent targeting: Ensure experiments reach the same user segments across both platforms.

  • Streamlined workflow: Eliminate the need to recreate cohorts in Statsig, saving time and effort.

  • Enhanced analysis: Combine Mixpanel's behavioral insights with Statsig's experimentation capabilities for deeper understanding of user preferences and responses.

By integrating Mixpanel cohorts with Statsig segments, you can seamlessly incorporate existing user groupings into your experimentation strategy. This enables more precise targeting and accelerates the process of launching experiments.

Configuring outbound events to Mixpanel

Statsig can forward events to Mixpanel, providing a unified view of user interactions across both platforms. To set up outbound event forwarding:

  1. Obtain your Mixpanel "Project Token" by following their documentation.

  2. In Statsig, paste the project token into the Outgoing configuration on the Mixpanel integration panel.

  3. Click "Enable" (or "Confirm" if updating an existing integration).

  4. Verify events are being forwarded by checking the Events tab in Mixpanel.

You can also customize which events are sent to Mixpanel using Statsig's Event Filtering feature. This allows you to focus on the most relevant events for your analysis.

Forwarding Statsig events to Mixpanel enables you to:

  • Consolidate data: Maintain a comprehensive record of user actions in Mixpanel.

  • Enrich analysis: Combine experiment data with other user behavior for deeper insights.

  • Streamline reporting: Generate reports and dashboards incorporating both Statsig and Mixpanel data.

By configuring outbound events, you can ensure that Mixpanel receives a complete picture of user interactions, including those related to experiments conducted in Statsig. This integration simplifies data management and enhances the value of both platforms.

Configuring outbound events to Mixpanel

Statsig makes it easy to export your events to Mixpanel for unified analytics. This allows you to leverage Mixpanel's powerful reporting capabilities alongside Statsig's experimentation platform.

To enable event forwarding, first obtain your "Project Token" from your Mixpanel project settings. Then, paste the token into the Outgoing configuration section of the Statsig Mixpanel integration panel. Click "Enable" to start sending events, or "Confirm" if updating an existing integration.

You can verify that events are being forwarded correctly by checking the Events tab in Mixpanel. Statsig events will appear alongside your existing Mixpanel event data for a comprehensive view.

If you only want to send a subset of events to Mixpanel, use the Event Filtering feature. This allows you to customize which specific events are forwarded based on your data needs and analysis goals. Fine-tune your event stream to focus on the most relevant user actions and metrics.

By combining Statsig's experimentation capabilities with Mixpanel's analytics, you can gain deeper insights into user behavior. Measure the impact of feature changes and understand how different variations affect key metrics. Use this data to make informed product decisions and drive growth.

Statsig's Mixpanel integration is designed to be flexible and efficient. Whether you're running a single experiment or managing a complex feature rollout, you can rely on seamless data syncing between the two platforms. Focus on building great products while Statsig and Mixpanel handle the heavy lifting behind the scenes.
