Does Statsig's CUPED Use OLS and Support Binary Metrics?

Date of slack thread: 5/27/24

Anonymous: Hey again, Does CUPED in StatSig use OLS regression method only? I just wonder if CUPED can be used for binary metrics if we optimize for form completion rates, for example. I guess we will need logistic regression for that. Recently Khameleoon A/B testing tool representatives told me that their tool supports CUPED for binary metrics as well, so it seems possible.

Cooper Reid (Statsig): <@U057R37HM3K> I’m not familiar with OLS method, but as the bot stated we don’t document that, so it’s likely an alternative approach. More on our CUPED implementation here.

Timothy Chan (Statsig): Hi Sergei, we do use OLS and functionally, the method is the same as a logistic regression when you provide a binomial metric.

We evaluated Optimizely, LaunchDarkly, Split, and Eppo, but ultimately selected Statsig due to its comprehensive end-to-end integration. We wanted a complete solution rather than a partial one, including everything from the stats engine to data ingestion.
