If you don’t already have a Statsig account, you’ll need to create one to use Statsig Sidecar. Don’t worry, they’re free, and so is Sidecar.
Statsig’s free tier is very nice.
Your Statsig account will come with API keys. Click the Statsig Sidecar icon in your Chrome Extensions tray and add your API keys right into Statsig Sidecar.
Click on web elements and make changes directly in the Sidecar. Hit the play button to make sure your variants are displaying properly. This is how they will look to your end users!
Don’t forget to hit publish!
Back in your Statsig account, you’ll need to hit the Start button on the top right of your experiment page. Now, Copy the code and paste it into the head of your web page.
If you’re using a CMS, you’ll need to add one simple field that lets you add unique code to the head of collections pages.
Does the Statsig Sidecar Chrome extension sell or transfer my data in any way?
No, Statsig Sidecar doesn't even collect or use your data.
Does Statsig Sidecar collect information about my users?
No. Statsig Sidecar will collect metrics and assign them their own 'session IDs,' which are essentially made up.
Do I need to know any code in order to use Statsig Sidecar?
No, but Statsig Sidecar allows you to modify your site's HTML. If you're comfortable reading but not writing HTML, you'll be great. 💪
Don't I need to know how to code in order to set up Statsig Sidecar?
No. During setup, however, you will need to copy a tag from Statsig and paste it into your website's code in order to establish a connection.
How do I see how my website variants are performing?
You'll be able to see all of your metrics in your Statsig dashboard, which will be provided to you as part of your free Statsig account.
Will changes made via Statsig Sidecar slow down my web page?
By default, no. Sidecar by itself will not affect your page speed in a meaningful way.
