To make things easier, we created a spreadsheet to compare pricing, which includes all the formulas we used + any assumptions we made. Please share feedback on our methodology!
The main takeaway? Statsig is the cheapest session replay tool at all usage levels up to 100k sessions per month.
In our analysis, we compared multiple vendors using standardized assumptions. Here’s a graphical representation of the costs:
Statsig is consistently the lowest price across all usage levels
LogRocket and Hotjar are significantly more expensive than competitors for 5k+ sessions
High-traffic websites might find session-based pricing models more costly
Amplitude’s public pricing maxes out at 10k sessions
Statsig’s free tier includes 10x more sessions than Posthog (50k vs 5k)
These insights can guide you in selecting the right platform based on your traffic and usage patterns.
Session replay platforms use various pricing models. The two methods used by the platforms we evaluated are daily and monthly session replays. Though the two methods are pretty self-explanatory, here’s a quick comparison.
Daily session pricing is measured by number of sessions recorded per day (used by Hotjar)
Monthly session pricing is measured by number of sessions recorded per month (used by Statsig, Posthog, Amplitude, and LogRocket)
To do an apples to apples comparison, we assumed 30 days per month.
While cost is important, you should also consider additional features and tools bundled with session replay platforms. Some platforms include heat maps, user feedback tools, and integrations with other analytics services.
Scalability and performance are also crucial. Ensure the platform can handle your peak traffic without sacrificing performance. Look for platforms that offer flexible plans that can grow with your needs.
We encourage you to review the detailed methodology in this Google Sheet and if you have any questions, reach out here or shoot me an email!
And since our free tier includes 50k session replays per month (10x more than PostHog), it’s a great place to start :)
